Present

This was a collaboration that started out on Threads, where director R. S. Jon was searching for a composer. Fortunately, my earlier work resonated with him, and I was brought on board to score his film. At first, I only had the script, with small fragments of the film trickling in over time. Slowly but surely the score started to take shape and from the beginning, we shared a vision of the musical direction.

The challenge with a short film is often to develop a distinct vibe and establish recurring themes in such a short time. It was important to me that the score remained cohesive and that each theme served a clear purpose.

I went for two themes: the present timeline, represented by the piano part in “Cadoul", and Maria’s internal struggle, which unfolds in the second half of “Ruined Dream". Both are meant to portray different thoughts and states of mind.
